ContentAsia Awards and News & Documentary Emmy Awards, two of the biggest television awards in Asia and U.S. have recently announced their nominations for 2020. GagaOOLala has various originals and selected movies among them. For ContentAsia Awards, the acclaimed original series Unlocked is being nominated for “Best Quarantine-themed Drama/Feature/Programme”, while 5 Lessons in Happiness and Handsome Stewardess are both up for “Best LBGTQ+ Programme Made in Asia" together with Chasing Sunsets (Philippines) and His (Japan), also available on GagaOOLala. For News & Documentary Emmy Awards, the original documentary Made in Boise is being nominated for “Outstanding Business and Economic Documentary”. The ceremony of ContentAsia Awards will be streaming live on August 28; the winners of News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be announced on 22 September.

Unlocked is an anthology of six stories about gay relationships during the lockdown in the Philippines. This GagaOOLala original Filipino series contains six episodes that follow a single gay man and a call boy, a gay couples live together, a lesbian couple in a long distance relationship, an old and a young gay men, a gay son and his mother, and a bisexual writer. Due to the great response, three new follow-up episodes will be released starting at the end of August.

5 Lessons in Happiness

Presented by the Berlinale Teddy Award winning Taiwanese director Zero Chou, “5 Lessons in Happiness” is a compilation of five comedy shorts about LGBTQ+ community in Taiwan. In “Little Man” a professional swimmer insecure about his “size;” “Homebound”, a lesbian goes back home 30 years later and tries to win back her sister-in-law; “Throuple”, a wife who cheats on her husband with a woman has to make a choice; “She is My Father”, a pregnant teenage girl seeks help from her father who has become a woman; “Baby Maybe”, a gay teacher hopes to take over the baby of his pregnant student to continue his family’s name.

Handsome Stewardess

Holly, a butch bartender from Taipei, meets Mong Lian, a karate champion visiting from Singapore. It is love at first sight but the distance between Taiwan and Singapore soon becomes their biggest obstacle. In order to spend more time with Mong Lian, Holly decides to apply for a flight stewardess position at a Singaporean airline. Little does she know the job comes with many gender bias. While Holly is left to sink or swim at her new job, Mong Lian has to figure out how to come out to her parents.
