Sundance Film Festival 2018 dropped the curtain on January 28. The event wrapped up presenting the Jury Award to the lesbian coming of age film The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018). After the success of Call Me by Your Name (2017), that took the 2017 edition by storm, a LGBTQIA film is making a big impression agian.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post is an adaption from the 2012 novel of the same name by American writer Emily M. Danforth. The story is set in Montana, 1993. A teenage girl, Cameron (played by Chloe Grace Moretz), is found making out with her school’s prom queen. After that, her conservative aunt forces her to attend the “Appropriate Sex Roles” group therapy.

Hit-Girl from Kick-Ass (2010), Chloe Grace Moretz, stars in the film as Cameron, while American Honey’s (2016) Sasha Lane plays another girl who is in the same therapy group as Cameron. She came out as a lesbian woman when The Miseducation of Cameron Post debuted on Sundance Film Festival!
Other cast members include the leading actress of the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries, Jennifer Ehle ,and the star from 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016), John Gallagher Jr.
Sasha Lane came out publicly during Sundance Film Festival.
This film is directed by the talented American-Iranian director, Desiree Akhavan, whose first feature film, Appropriate Behavior (2014), also was queer-focused. The screenplay of The Miseducation of Cameron Post was written by usual collaborators Akhavan and Cecilia Frugiuele, who also participated in the writing of Appropriate Behavior. The team continues with their efforts to present the plight and struggles of American lesbians, delivering a new classic for queer film history.
