The latest film from Joachim Trier, director of Louder Than Bombs (2015) and Reprise (2006) blew many critics’ mind away. Thelma (2017) is influenced by many elements from different genres like fantasy, horror, and romance. The story about a Norwegian girl, Thelma, who moves from the countryside to Oslo to attend college soon becomes a bizarre and twisted tale. She is innocent and naive, but she has strong beliefs due to the strict education she received from her parents. After starting university, she develops a close friendship with her beautiful classmate Anja. During a traumatic event at the school library, she finds out about her hidden supernatural powers, a secret that has haunted her parents all their lives. Afterwards, Thelma realizes the source of her power is related to a secret from her past, which leads to a series of unavoidable disasters.
